Loss of State Aid

Governor Christie has proposed a reduction in state aid to schools in the amount of 7.4% statewide. However, not all school districts, in his eyes, are equal. Riverdale will be losing 83.2% in aid ($321,000). In addition to that Christie is "taxing" the school construction grant we received eight years ago to the tune of $20,204! Overall, Riverdale will lose $341,204 (88.4%)for the coming school year. That will result in a four point tax increase to stay even.Paul Mulshine of the Star Ledger wrote today: Remember those rebates? Another broken property-tax relief promise 3/18/2010

Garbage Pick-up

We have arranged with our garbage contractor to pick up all the bulk items left at the curb on Tuesday, March 16 and 23. This is in response to the devastating storm we had this past weekend.

Read About Our Railroad!

railroaded-in-cooperstown2.jpg This book, Railroaded in Cooperstown, is available at the Riverdale Library. Hot! A compelling true David and Goliath story about an honest man who risked everything to fight for truth and justice against corporate and political greed, power, and corruption. In his capacity as Chief of Police for the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway, David had been working for several weeks investigating a double fatality train accident when Walter Rich, the company's president, came into his office, a notice of claim against the railroad in his hand, and shut the door. Rich looked nervous and upset and starting talking about the lawsuit. He paused, and then without looking directly at me said "You'll have to lie for us on this one" and without saying another word, turned and walked out. David's response would set in motion a chilling true story of what can happen to one honest man when he confronts politics, power, and corruption in the small but famous of village of Cooperstown, New York.
