This book, Railroaded in Cooperstown, is available at the Riverdale Library. Hot! A compelling true David and Goliath story about an honest man who risked everything to fight for truth and justice against corporate and political greed, power, and corruption. In his capacity as Chief of Police for the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railway, David had been working for several weeks investigating a double fatality train accident when Walter Rich, the company's president, came into his office, a notice of claim against the railroad in his hand, and shut the door. Rich looked nervous and upset and starting talking about the lawsuit. He paused, and then without looking directly at me said "You'll have to lie for us on this one" and without saying another word, turned and walked out. David's response would set in motion a chilling true story of what can happen to one honest man when he confronts politics, power, and corruption in the small but famous of village of Cooperstown, New York.
Our neighbors in Allendale, Bergen County, are working to preserve an historic house, much as we did with the Glenburn Estate. Check out this link of interest.

A bear was sited along the Newark Pompton Turnpike intersection with Route 23, behind Family Carpets. The bear was sitting down "crying" or "wailing"; would walk around for a bit and then start the wailing again. As I was taking photos of this bear a driver stopped her car and told me that there were two bears behind me. I turned around and got the photo of the bear looking around the corner of the fence. When I went across the street the two bears followed and joined their mother. Fortunately, they made it across the street without injury.

A N.J. Wildlife Control officer advised us today to put ammonia in garbage pails if the bears are foraging through them looking for food. This will generally keep them away.
